Week 5

In class we watched the movie, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, by Wes Anderson. This film had a very similar feeling to another film I have seen in the past called Fantastic Mr. Fox. I didn't know they were made by the same person until we watched a video explaining every Wes Anderson movie. Wes Anderson has a very specific and unique style of film making and is a perfect example of Mise-en-Scene.

One major thing he does in all his movies is makes very symmetrical shots. He does this in almost every scene in the movie. Another thing he does is uses the same actors in all of his movies. I'm not sure exactly why he does this, I guess he just likes those actors. They are all pretty famous actors such as, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, and Willem Dafoe. Additionally he uses very specific and unique color pallets. He uses these color pallets in ways you wouldn't think. For example he will use bright colors during sad scenes. All of these are his unique styles and part of his Mise-en-Scene.

I enjoyed the movie, I found it interesting and engaging. I like Bill Murray as an actor and find him funny so I think that's one of the main reasons why I enjoyed the movie. However, the plot was a little hard for me to follow. It seemed like they jumped around a lot and I was unsure what their overall goal was throughout the movie. Overall it was fun to watch and I enjoyed watching it in class.
