This week we watched Pans Labyrinth in class and I can say I enjoyed the movie very much. It was a movie with a good amount of action and supernatural things and also human problems. People can take the movie and interpret it however they want. Was all the supernatural things real? Was it all just in Ofelias head? I can definitely see both sides of it and would believe either side. However I think it was all actually real, the main reason why I think so is because when she was locked in her room and had to go find her baby brother, she got out of the room using the magic chalk. Well I guess it never shows us this but the Faun told her to use the chalk and the next scene she was in the other room. But how else would she have gotten out without anyone noticing?
At first I thought it was going to be a kids movie until the guys face got smashed in by the captain with the bottle. This is the first movie we have watched where there is a decent amount of gore. I for one don't mind gore as much and I think it can really add to a movie and help the viewers feel what the characters feel. While it may be gross sometimes I think they used the right amount in this movie to really make you feel what they were going through.
I have seen the food scene before but I never knew it was from this movie. They did a great job with the costume design in the movie with the monsters. The Faun looked really good and the guy with the eyes in his hands looked good too. I liked that we watched the movie in Spanish also. I think watching movies in other languages in fun and I don't mind reading the subtitles.
